Forget the association with strippers and low-budget fashion wear, transparent vinyl was the material of choice for a range of luxe footwear on the Spring/Summer 12 runways. Phillip Lim led the Cinderella-style proceedings with delicate peep-toe pumps which were elegantly teamed with chic cropped trousers and floaty pastel strapless tops.
Emporio Armani showed off a more edgy look, opting for skyscraper transparent heels with chunky white and nude ankle straps. Models strutted down the catwalk in a range of high-powered but risqué monochrome ensembles, with one outfit boasting just a criss-cross effect front covering the model's modesty.
The outfits were teamed with matching black and white hats and over-sized bags for an edgier take on the trend. A range of see-through footwear was included on the runways, such as Western-tinged booties and high-heeled oxfords.
Clear shoes can be chic or sexy, depending on the look you prefer. For a whimsical take on the trend, choose delicate peep toe heels and team with long floaty skirts, or candy coloured jeans for a more practical look.
